Steps Required to Complete the Retainer
Thank you for choosing me to represent you in your legal matter.
You must complete the retainer process before I become your lawyer.
1. Complete the Client Identification Form, 2. Sign the Retainer Form,
3. Provide Retainer Payment and Attend a Video Conference.
Step 1: Client Identification
The Law Society of Ontario requires lawyers obtain certain basic information about clients and any third parties that retain their services. Click here for more information about these requirements.
Kindly complete the client intake form linked below and email a copy of government issued photo identification such as a driver's licence or passport (health card not accepted) to email@example.com.
Step 2: Retainer Form
The retainer form is contract that sets out the relationship between the client and the lawyer.
I will send you a retainer form to review and complete after you provide your identification information set out at step 1.
Step 3: Payment & Video Conference
I will send payment and fee information to you with the retainer. You can make payment via email transfer to firstname.lastname@example.org. Once payment is received, we will arrange a video conference to verify the information provided and to get started on your case.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Remember that all steps in the retainer process are required by the Law Society of Ontario (formerly the Law Society of Upper Canada) and there are no exceptions.
I am not retained and I am not your lawyer until all the above steps are complete including signing the retainer and providing payment.
